Hey guys, I got lucky for a change and have an offer of free accommodation in Herold's Bay. Needless to say I'm chuffed about this, now my only dilemma is where is the closest slip launch for a 23ft mono? Can't do beach, not enough crew and no breakneck. Someone mentioned Sedgefield, but I Google Earth'ed the mouth and it looks kinda shallow.

Anyone have any advice? I would like to stay as local as possible to Herold's, bit of a schlep hauling the rig around so the closer the better....

Hi

I stay in Herolds every December, best and safest launch in the Mosselbay yacht club, you can get temporary membership, a safe launch off a slipway.

Commodore is Carlo BettIni, contact him directly if you have any queries.

Thanks for that info, thought that was probably best option from my google earth tour. How's the fishing around M Bay, need to travel far to fishing grounds? I've seen a couple of boats in the bay from the road, but they could have been suntanning for all I know...

LoL, I doubt if you will find any sunbathers on the decks of boats there......

Travel to fishing spots from the harbour anywhere from 2-40NM, but good spots mostly within a 12NM radius.

Bottom fishing is the in thing.... Fresh, and I mean really fresh chokka does the trick. The cobs do get massive there, 100 pounders are always a possibility.....

I have found that drifting over the spots delivers better results..... Need to re-position a lot, but worth it.
