Hi guys,
I'm a newbie here - seems a nice place:), was doing a search yesterday and saw the post on the quarry, and thought I might be able to add something.
I’ve been there a few times, and got thrown out once by the owner (along with five other guys), he told us the quarry is a conservation area – didn’t look like one!! Any-way the quarry is not that much of a secret, I’ve seen many different people fishing there in my visits.
After I was thrown out I contacted some of the other guys who were thrown out too, with the intention of contacting the owner and starting a fishing club there – then shortly after that there was a woman and her daughter who were abducted and robbed from their Waterkloof home (early to middle last year) and taken to that quarry for well you know what, the cops rounded up those ‘vagrants’ for questioning. As a result, I never persued the club idea – but it does have merit.
Problem is the quarry is very heavily overgrown with thin Wattle trees – very dense, so you can’t realy move around in a group, and therefore there are many easy ambush sites. I have always gone through the gate and the ‘launch site’ (for the small inflatable I took), is very isolated and out of site.
As my two young boys and I have been robbed at gun point once already at another isolated dam – I would think twice.
On the other side……the fishing is GREAT, caught plenty of fish in the 800gr to 1.2 kg class (8-10 fish in an afternoon is easily do-able), the water is gin clear (lots of sight fishing) and there is structure galore, laydowns, rocks, submerged timber, steep drop offs, standing timber the lot. Flukes in any natural colour will get them biting. The biggest fish I’ve seen come out was 3 plus kilos. For best results you need to be on the water – that also gets you away from the ‘shore vermin’, and if you can post a look-out while you get your gear and inflatable sorted when you arrive and sorted again as you finish, then you should be OK. Those areas that are accessible on foot have been heavily fished.
Be wary though. Hope this helps.

LOL

Ernstig, as jy dalk weet hoe om kontak te maak laat my weet asb.

Bliksem die security guard, knip die slot oop of ry die hek af en wag so 10 min dan behoort hy daar op te daag...

Zucas, If you can arrange the number of the owner i will phone him and try to arrange some fishing there. I would really like to try the quarry and the locals really don't bother me it's the owner i am worried about.

Please be as kind to take some pictures of the quarry when you go there again.

thanx

Contacting the owner is a good idee.

Going to the quarry in a group is going to be necessary... the place is a bit doggy and I am too pretty for violent crime....
