Cuban Cigar, we may be advanced in years, but (hopefully!)have the wisdom as well. ;)

Anyway, the oldest chap I met quite regularly a year or two ago at a place called "The Pypies" (directly opposite Greenways), was 74 at the time, negotiating his way through the gulleys with a walking stick. He told me he used to catch Miss Lucy from that same spot in his younger days. So, at least another 2 decades of reef fishing left for the two of us.

And remember, a kob of 3kg + is a different beast in 1,5 metres of water ducking and diving amongst rooiaas knolls.

Nothing quite like strand reefs! Its intoxicating. Once you have experienced it you just want more & more & more & more....

One tip I can give you is to not bother with heavy sinkers. I hardly carry heavier than 4oz bottles.

Lyk my 'n ou se sagte plekke is veiliger as jou hardes teen die stampe, stote, bruises en snye ?

Ek sit my shin pads bo oor my wetsuit. Glo my hulle help baie!

well, with a kob/elf hanging on the fish rope, you will quickly see a fin, or feel a tug-o-war going on.
if there is bite marks, or the fish (or part thereof) is gone, it is probably rather late... haha:shock:

Trust my, jy sal weet as hulle daar is.

That is a brilliant photo of that shark...3 years on the reef and never saw one and hope I never do!

I must say, I'm more afraid of seals to be honest...I was attacked by a seal while fighting a duckbill on blinkwater in waist deep water coming over the rocks. Summer equinox or something like that. Water was in beach road with the high tide. One of those monster seals! Gave some fellow anglers hassles about 300m to the right at paaltjie, narrowly missed the anglers arm as he lifted a spotty out of the water and then came cruising down the reef to where I was. My partner first hit him with the rod as he came closer and the next 2 time he came with intent so my partner hit him with the reel over the snout which sent him packing.

I know about the big raggies on the reefs, but only caught and seen the small raglets of 5 - 10kg.

Craig, I used 4oz but moved up to 7oz this last season. Must easier to handle casting in the wind...

Blood in the water is like a magnet.

I once was knocked off a perch while catching galjoen and cut my index finger on my left hand on barnacles as I went down.

The wound kept on bleeding for the next half an hour - not much, but constantly and I had nothing to plug it with. Anyway, after about 45 minutes this fin came cruising about five metres from me. I could not see what species it was, but suddenly realised it was damn cold and I had a nice flask of tea with a shot of whiskey back in the car.

Speak of the devil! Been quite a while since I saw that old toppie on the beach and my angling partner, busy collecting red bait at the moment, just sent a whatts app saying he met him next to Beach Road just now, on his way to the Pypies to look for kob.

You will see him right opposite Greenways on the outer reefs when you drive past the hotel for the next hour or so.

For the eds I am using either a purglass stroke 2 or pentagon baby. I know the guys like using the 110H. Pairing this with a sl30sh or sl20sh.

For the smoothies a stiffer rod like a purglass stroke 4 with a 15/30 or 20/40.

Oh FFFFFFFFFFF , you just ruined the friendship with this photo !!!
