I went to Benoni middle dam this afternoon and decided to throw a frog a bit.I fished for two hours, and only got two fish boiling on the frogs. One took it, but I couldnt hook him... Oh well........

Ragiehunter, I would gladly do a step by step thing for you on rigging a frog, but my camera's cables are missing. As soon as I can find them, I'll do one for you.

Thanks for the invite??? I live about 10min away LMAO

I use it only as a topwater lure. If I swim it over lillies and grass anditgoes over a openpocket, I'll stop it for a bit and twitch my rod> After about 5 second I'll then swim it to the edge of the pocket and rest it there for a bit, before carrying on my retrieve. Also sometimes I'll stop it on a lillie or on the grass and twitch it a bit, or just let it sit for a minute.

Never fish a frog with a weight. A weight makes it very difficult to keep the lure on top of the water. It also forces you to winch the frog too fast.

I saw some Berkley frogs (Horny toad type swimtail) at MIAS this morning.

4 count, R100.00

I wonder if they are that much better??? They were in the special "sauce"

Anyone try them yet?

I struggled this weekend at Murray park with my frogs. Got lots of takes on them, but no hook-ups. Also my wide gap hooks kept on bringing all the vegetables to the shore... Thye kept on getting tangled, it was very frustrating.... Just shows, there are times when long shank hooks are the answer.

Myself and a few friends were fishing a couple weeks ago and the bass were on the top water bite. So on went the Spro frogs, we had loads of "on off's" and only managed to land one bass.
What could the problem be? We waited for them to take the frog right under and then strike(rather hard). Were we not striking hard enough or does this happen with spros.
Is it adviced to maybe change the hook to a thinner gauge for better/easier hook set when striking?

i have put a short shank leader hook on my spro frogs (only on the 1 hook) and have a 90% hook up ratio now...

thanks Scuda
I will give it a try.
I was abit bleak when we started missing so many. Those fish couldnt leave it alone. Cast and let it sit abit then a twitch or two then left it. Most of the time we got a knock

Jip, I put an extra trailer hook on mine, it messes up the action a biit butt works much better also wait about 2 sec after the fish hit the frog before striking. Made the same mistake for a while.

Thanks Monster
My friend tried a trailer hook for a while but got fed from getting stuck, we had to cast into the thick stuff
We were waiting for abit but probably not long enough

Spro frogs are KAK!!

Rather use plastic Horny Toads or such like... And if you want to stop your frog in the water, you can get those floating ones

i'm not in the leagues of u guys, but after the spawn when the eggs have just hatched into the little fry and the make these black clouds... cast over them about 10 yards off, and pull the frog on top of the water towards the cloud of little bass. Momma/Poppa will come catch that critter real chop chop. I only use the soft plastic cheap black frogs.

Also deadly if u have an open patch between reeds and u pull it back along the reads. One bass came and took the frog just as i wanted to lift it out of the water for my next cast.

Yup, I have caught Bass on a toad at my toes too!

As soon as my camera is back in action, I'll post some photo's of how I rig a frog, there are a couple of ways, depending on the conditions. I have Spro frogs, but I haven't rigged a trailer hook on them yet, but their catch ratio is sh!t And catching with a frog is difficult enough as it is, you dont need help losing fish!

I use a trailer with the rubber tube and a wire weed gaurds. I normally trim the trailer on the spro frogs by 3cm as fish hit the tail and miss the frog. Also bend the hooks out a bit more. Always wait a second before setting the hook

Love fishing frogs in low light, on grass or next to weeds. O, they are great at night
