This is just a way for those with the "means" to subsidize the "subsistance" anglers who pay nothing and are never checked!
Until they can show clearly in black and white where the monies we have paid in the past have gone and how we as anglers have beniffited they can go and stick their new tarrifs up their @#$%!!
I for one am sick of taking it where the sun does not shine just because we as anglers are easy targets.
When i see some.....ANY...effort on behalf of MCM to improve our saftey, access to fishing spots, or any other effort that would benifit us as anglers i would be prepared listen to their reasoning for an increase!

Ek sê julle dis daai Kortbroek van Schalwyk wat hier agter sit. Met sy pudding gesig en bietjie bril! Seker nog nooit eers probeer visvang nie, nog nie eens te praat van 'n ordintlike stok houvas nie!

Kortbroek is no longer the minister, enviro affairs and tourism have thankfully parted ways and so has forestry and water affairs. It is now environmental and water affairs and Sonjica I think is the new minister

hahahahahahaqhahahahahaah

How about the status of False Bay water which is basically now officially diluted sewage all the way from Macassar to Strand. Not sure if anyone has seen the papers today but it is a disgrace. The municipality has been denying it for ages but it is now official that most of the treatment plants on the Cape Flats are in need of repair because something like 80 critical water treatment specialist positions are vacant. Think twice about wading let alone swimming in these areas.

What is the position of the angling clubs? Will they let their members compete without a valid license?

ultimately, the fees for angling and bait collection are manageable for the middle class citizen. it is the poorer people that will suffer in the end and resort to poaching, which is already out of control. i can afford R42.00 a month to fish and collect. as for the the crayfishing, that is just absurd. R500 for 6 months is rediculous.
furthermore, there is no justification from the bigwigs why they want to have such drastic increases. i suppose the gravy train needs to be greased some more......

Well i dunno wtf to do. I've shown the law says they can take your stuff if they feel you have committed a crime as evidence, and fishing without the licence is a crime.

I don't have money to replace my tackle, and i definately don't have R1600 a year to fish, plus 1000 for my wife.

No chance here. Papgooi here i come again...

What makes me most de moer in... We are just starting to educate the masses. people are buying their licences, people are starting to try and keep to limits etc. Well at least i feel i'm seeing it more and more. There are still ugly situations but there has been a feint light at the end of the tunnel.

Now with something like this you just pull away any form of credibility, proving the powers that be are utter idiots, and if they can make dumb decisions like this, what substance is there to the catch limits etc that they impose???

Something like this just simply strips away what little credibility MCM has.

Struggling to police the Recreational fishing sector??? Easy peasy, make it too difficult for them to fish legally, and your work load is halved.

Only have a certain tonnage of Crayfish you want the recreational sector to catch, make it too expensive for them to do so.

If you are already breaking the law by not fishing with a licence, you are not going to worry about sticking to size limits.

I dont think so , the reason people will be breaking the law without fishing with permits is because its simply ridiculous and expensive , abiding by limits is more to do with the conservation of fishing. They are two different things and most anglers are not reckless they just cannot and will abide to blatant day light robbery.

I for one have paid the last time for all these licences. I have paid for them all these years to go and fish at the coast a maximum of 3 times a year for a couple of days. I will rather run the risk of a fine.

I do understand that there is a need for fees, but then it must be to the benefit of the people paying these fees and not "school fees". This has never really happened but it was not absurdly expensive. :X:X:uzi:uzi

Sparty thinx tend to snowball.

I know most of the people i've seen take undersize or over limit fish were unlicensed.

But i for one will not pay that amount i cannot afford it. I'll look into it once i can leave my car some place safe in falsebay and fish the whole night on my own without fearing for my life.

I will NOT pay that amount while abalone poachers simply walk onto the harbour at Struisbaai with bags full of abalone without a finger being lifted for example.

Or while litres full of kak is being pumped into falsebay on a daily basis.
